Invite – Frank’s Ordination

Happily we can announce that our good friend Frank (photo below in case you need reminding) will be “Going Forth from home to homelessness” as the suttas put it. He will be ordaining as a Bhikkhu (monk).

All the Little Bangkok Sangha is invited – in fact Frank has handed out lot of invitations but can’t possibly remember everyone. All of us are invited.

You are most cordially invited to attend the ordination of

Frank Newbold

at Wat Thewarat

Sam Sen Road

Sunday 29 March 2009

Meet at 3pm, ceremony starts at 4

There will be food served after the ceremony

(except for Frank of course)

In fact there will be activity there all day, so you can get there much earlier and make a day of it. Though there is a common tradition for Thais to ordain for very short periods of time, in this case the ordainee will be looking at a long haul. We don’t take life vows, but can intend to stay for a long time. Although ordaining at Wat Thewet, he will be moving to a different temple soon after to commence his ordained life. Sadhu!

Note: Ajahn Wimoak’s day long workshop at Ariyasom in English has been moved to Saturday 28th so that people will be free to attend Frank’s ordination.

Temple is on the Chao Praya River, at the end of Sri Ayutthaya Road and Pitsanaluk Road:

Address:
Wat Thewarat Kunchorn Worawiharn
Si Ayutthaya 21

Frank! I’ve seen you the last 2 sundays and your ordination has been all the gossip! Therefore you will have to squeeze me in (I’m the 6 foot blonde, so good luck with the squeeze part) P.S. I’ll try not to be a gawky on-looker, but this is going to be so very interesting of an experience.

  2. Will says:

    I’ll be there…

  3. Cittasamvaro says:

I shall be there in the afternoon too. Expect a good crowd!

  4. Marcus says:

What a wonderful afternoon. Thank you to Littlebang, and congratulations to Frank and Martin.

  5. Cittasamvaro says:

Yes – nice to see everyone. I will post some explanations of the ceremony if I get time.

So who will we be ordaining next ? Any contenders ?

  6. Marcus says:

    Hi,

I don’t know about ordaining, but, you know, a formal taking refuge/precepts ceremony would be a great idea.

I took refuge in a Korean temple last year with a number of my Dharma brothers from our Sangha in Seoul, the ceremony was carried out by our teacher and a number of monks from the temple and was a very significant and wonderful event for all of us.

I’m sure such a thing here would be very popular and just as meaningful and beautiful.

    All the best,

    Marcus
